Hey, You! You’re in Charge of Your Own Personal Safety

How to Improve Personal Safety

Learning how to improve personal safety is something we talk about a lot here at Stiletto Agency.

You may feel that carrying pepper spray around in your purse is all you need. However, we’re here to tell you that personal safety is about way more than just pepper sprayPersonal safety takes consistency and only YOU can learn how to protect yourself.

Below, we outline a few ways you can take personal safety into your own hands.

How to Improve Personal Safety: Start Small in Your Daily Life

Think of taking a test. You prepare and study for it, right? Well, it’s the same for personal safety too. You have to prepare yourself for the worst, so that you can be ready for whatever’s thrown at you.

This starts with being aware of your surroundings and recognizing the danger signs. By studying the behavior of others around you, you can tell a lot about a situation.

So, start small. As you make your daily walk to grab a coffee, don’t look down at your phone. Instead, scan your surroundings and see if anything may feel “off” to you.

The more observant you are in your daily life, the more you’ll naturally recognize dangerous signs and be able to avoid them.

Notice Your Body Language

Once you start observing your surroundings and other people, it’s important to look at yourself as well. Body language can indicate a lot about someone, and is key to showing that you’re not someone to be messed with.

Start with asking yourself the following:

  • Are you walking with your head up and shoulders back?
  • Does it look like you know where you’re going?
  • Are you aware of your surroundings?
  • Are your hands free and visible?

Your body language is a vital part of your personal safety. Even if you don’t feel confident, confident body language gives the impression that you are and therefore, makes you much less of a target.
